Verdict: Made in Canada, Ethical, Environmentally Friendly, High Quality
Briggs and Little is a woolen mill in New Brunswick, Canada that produces eco friendly yarns from Canadian grown wool. Because yarns are made from wool and are not subjected to acid baths that dissolve organic matter that is mixed with the wool, yarns may be “scratchy” or contain vegetable matter, but will soften with time (and vegetable matter can be picked out).
What They Sell: Yarn
Transparency: Very transparent. All yarns come from Canadian grown sheep, and all steps of the production process are done at the mill in New Brunswick.
What They Are Doing Great:
- Made in Canada
- Wool comes from Canadian Sheep (mulesing of sheep is not practiced in Canada, where the fly that causes flystrike is not native).
- Ethically made
- Environmentally friendly
- Low impact dyes
- Water is treated before being returned to the environment.
- Wool is not carbonized ( a process of putting wool into an acid bath that eats away all vegetable matter trapped in the wool)
